Doctoral Colloquium Sponsor: Monash University
ANZMAC 2006 acknowledge the generous support of Monash University as Doctoral Colloquium Sponsor for 2006.
The ANZMAC Doctoral Colloquium will take place
from Saturday 2 - Sunday 3 December 2006 immediately prior to the main ANZMAC 2006 Conference, starting with Welcome Drinks on Friday 1 December. The Colloquium and the Welcome Drinks will be held on the QUT Gardens Point Campus in the OJ Wordsworth Rooms, Level 12, S Block. Morning/afternoon teas and lunches will also be served there.
The aim of the Doctoral Colloquium is to provide the opportunity for doctoral students in marketing to discuss their doctoral work-in-progress with leading scholars from the region and overseas, and share their research with peers. The overall objective is to promote excellence in doctoral research throughout the region.
Students who participate in the Doctoral Colloquium are encouraged to submit a poster on their work for presentation at the Poster Sessions during at ANZMAC 2006. This will enable students early in their academic career to participate in the main Conference, with the oppportunity to showcase their work and receive further valuable advice.
Who should attend?
Students at all levels of the PhD are invited to present their research proposal at the Colloquium. Those students who are in the early stages of a doctoral program (pre-confirmation/progress report) are invited to participate in relaxed, roundtable discussions on their research. Those students who have a well-defined research project (post-confirmation/progress report) and who are well advanced in formulating their research plans will benefit from the Colloquium by receiving feedback on their research from the panel of scholars.
Candidates who are well advanced in their PhD studies are encouraged to give a presentation on their work. These candidates will be given feedback from their fellow candidates and from the designated academic staff during the open discussions and question and answer sessions after each presentation. In addition, after the presentation, those candidates submitting research proposals will receive specific detailed comments from the academic staff that assessed the proposal.
Students who are in the early stages of a doctoral program (pre-confirmation/progress report) and have not yet specified their own research plans are invited to observe the work of their peers and participate in feedback discussions. Alternatively, these students can participate in the relaxed roundtable discussions focusing on early PhD progression. These students will benefit from the Colloquium by gaining a better understanding of what constitutes high quality doctoral research and by being exposed to a range of research questions and methodologies that relate to their own work. These early PhD students may, if they wish, submit a short description of their proposed research area to the Colloquium Chair so that these roundtable discussions can be scheduled. If students wish to participate in the relaxed roundtable sessions, where their research plans are discussed with Faculty and fellow students, they should indicate this with their short description.
*Note: Doctoral students attending do not have to present a paper at the Colloquium.
Doctoral students unsure of their status with regard to stage of research are invited to contact the Colloquium Chair at the address below to discuss the issue.
