Australian currencyAustralia's currency consists of coins of five, 10, 20 and 50 cent and one and two dollar denomination; and notes of five, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar denomination. The dollar notes are among some of the most colourful and exciting in the world and feature well-known Australian legends, such as Edith Cowan (1861-1932), Australia's first female parliamentarian and the only woman in Australia with a university named after her on the A$50 note; the Reverend John Flynn* (1880-1951), founder of the world's first aerial medical service, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, on the A$20 note; and the poet A. B. ('Banjo') Paterson* (1864-1941) on the A$10 note.
