Whether you are arriving by car, plane, bus or train, travel to, from and around Brisbane is easy.

Domestic and International Flights

Flights arrive continuously at Brisbane's domestic and international airports, welcoming travellers from around Australia and the world. Brisbane's main airport is located approximately 15-20 minutes drive (13 km) from Brisbane CBD, 75 minutes drive from the Gold Coast and 105 minutes drive from the Sunshine Coast.

Airport transfers are readily available from the airport and there is a regular train and bus service straight to the city. Visit the Information Desk found in both the International and Domestic terminals for help with transfers.

Travel Within Australia

Driving to Brisbane

City trafficDriving from the Gold Coast takes about one hour. The distance between Brisbane and Sydney is 938km and the trip usually takes about 12 hours. Much work has been done to the Pacific Highway making for a more enjoyable drive from the south.

From the north, Noosa to Brisbane is about a two-hour drive, covering approximately 140km. Coming from as far north as Cairns is a drive best taken over a number of days. The total distance is approximately 1700km and would take about 22 hours to complete. Whenever driving long distances, driver fatigue should be avoided by sharing the driving and taking rest breaks every 2 hours.

Buses to Brisbane

Intercity and interstate buses arrive in Brisbane regularly at the main bus terminal at the Transit Centre on Roma St. The Bus Depot located at Central Station on Anne Street and can offer a convenient, budget way of getting to Brisbane from other centres within Australia. Most bus companies have ticketing offices located at the Bus Depot at Central Station. Visit Trans Info for more information and links to bus companies.

Trains to Brisbane

Intercity trains, including trains from the airport, arrive regularly at Central Station. Visit airtrain.com.au for on-line bookings to and from the airport. For one reason or another, the train tracks in Queensland are a different size to those in NSW; as such there is no train service from NSW (without changing to a bus as you approach the border). Trains do run from the Gold Coast, which is a 90-minute trip.

For information on interstate and long distance train services, visit Queensland Rail On The Internet.
